In economic anthropology, the term “bazaar” is most commonly associated with the works of Clifford Geertz who used the notion of the bazaar economy to study the peculiarities of peasant market systems. Geertz conceived of the bazaar as an overcomplicated and underorganized economic institution that lacked the capacity to contribute to economic progress
