Precarity describes a condition or subject experiencing risk and uncertainty wrought by unpredictable, rapidly changing, and sometimes volatile socioeconomic and political conditions. With its etymological roots in European labor movements in the 1990s, precarity also characterizes contingent and intermittent employment and/or high unemployment typical of the neoliberal economic conditions from the late twentieth century onward
