This article explores my experiences as a queer educator researching the lived history of queer teachers engaged in queer pedagogy. I discuss experiences of vicarious and secondary traumatic stress from my own life brought to light as a result of data collection and analysis, and thus make recommendations for queer researchers engaged in similar trauma-triggering work to prepare for the potential impact of hearing of traumatic situations, and have supportive systems in place for themselves.
