This paper introduces the Slovene subcorpus of the International Corpus of Learner English (ICLE), the first representative dataset of English produced by Slovene L1 speakers. It outlines the corpus design, learner metadata, and essay characteristics, highlighting its comparability with other ICLE subcorpora. The paper reviews contrastive Slovene-English studies and relevant ICLE-based research, showing how ICLE-Slovenia enables empirical testing of hypotheses from previous work and supports contrastive interlanguage analysis (CIA) investigations into L1 transfer, learner-specific grammatical and lexical patterns, and cross-variety clustering. Despite limitations in size and genre, ICLE-Slovenia provides a valuable resource for linguistic and pedagogical research, with potential applications in teaching materials, error analysis, and longitudinal studies.
