This article analyzes how black gay men from the east of São Paulo use musical and audiovisual performances (funk, rap, slam and voguing) as folkcommunication practices and resistance. The qualitative research uses discourse analysis and cultural studies, articulating concepts of gender, dissenting masculinity, race and territory. The corpus reveals that performative bodies produce aesthetic resistance, visibility and belonging, subverting hegemonic norms of gender and racialization. The digital circulation of these performances expands its power, constituting networks of affection and popular communication. It is concluded that the periphery functions as a space of symbolic creation, and gay black bodies emerge as agents of cultural and social transformation.
