Resumo
Joel Robbins responds to Mosko's article, "Partible Penitents," by examining the relationship between Christianity and cultural change in Melanesia. He argues that Mosko's focus on the continuity of indigenous practices within Christian contexts overlooks the transformative power of Christian ideas and practices. Robbins suggests that while Melanesians may reinterpret Christianity through existing cultural frameworks, Christianity also introduces new concepts and practices that reshape Melanesian social life. He emphasizes the importance of considering both continuity and change when analyzing the impact of Christianity in Melanesia.
