In recent years there have been a number of discussions in the Soviet press on different aspects of the population problem. The following excerpts from Russian articles and papers available in English illustrate the Soviet discussion. We have no way of knowing whether the views quoted below are fully representative but we are presenting a selection of materials some verbatim some excerpted that have come to our attention. Within each of the three broad sections-Demographic Questions Population Growth in the Soviet Union and Family Planning in the Soviet Union-the materials are arranged in chronological order as far as that can be determined.
