Heritability of 20 anthropometric traits was assessed by multiple regression analyses on 305 Mexican families. For most of the studied traits a high coefficient of heritability (range between 0.6 and 0.9) and a high and significant additive component of genetic variance were found. Only in three traits did the non-additive component have a significant value. By principal component analy sis all the studied traits were separated into eight independent groups. Segregations of these traits in offspring from the modal morphological types of parents were in agreement with the expected distributions and consequently supported the concept of a Mendelian heritability of these traits.
