In recent years the topic of religion and representation has generated a great deal of scholarly interest. Given the capaciousness of the material, it helps to draw attention to those representative works which have appeared in the most advanced fields across Europe, the United States, and Asia. This review traces the emergence of idiosyncratic discussions of religion and representation in the domains of contemporary theology, critical theory, analytic and Continental philosophy, and literary studies. The chapter is divided into two sections: 1. Philosophical Debates about Religion and Representation is written by Chance Woods and reviews books by Silvia Jonas, Agata Wilczek, and Richard H. Jones; 2. Religious Belief and the Cultural Limits of Representation is written by William Franke, reviews books by Ingolf U. Dalferth, Markus Gabriel, and Longxi Zhang.
