The European Conference on Critical Legal Studies (ECCLS) was established in March 1981 at its first annual convocation held in London on 28-30 March.Over seventy people attended, with most European countries represented.A wide range of papers was presented.Although none dealt directly with political and legal anthropology, ECCLS is of potential relevance, since it can accommodate any interest that fits within its broad aim which is the creation of links between radical legal scholars working on similar problems in different European countries, particularly where these problems transcend national boundaries.Indeed the theme of the next annual convocation is likely to be of particular relevance for political and legal anthropology as related to European social formations; its topic is Law, the Crisis of Capital, and Processes of Marginalisation. This meeting will be held in September 1982 in Denmark.Anyone who would like further information on ECCLS should contact
