The rise, expansion and development of Amazonian indigenous organizations, each with their own structures of political representation, are they an attempt by indigenous peoples to demonstrate that they can organize themselves in a way that is politically acceptable to the State? Are these organizations consequently seeking a better integration of the members who represent to the State, i.e., are they seeking more citizenship for indigenous men and women, and therefore more State in their territories? The answer to these questions is affirmative if we pay attention to the official discourses of all parties concerned, including the version of the indigenous organizations themselves and most anthropological analyses. However, in this paper, based on an analysis of a group of indigenous peoples of the Upper Amazon, I will argue that, if we take into account the broad historical cycle that begins in colonial times, things may be happening very differently
