The 'boom' of women's writing is often highlighted in accounts of narrative during the Transition period. Within the narrative of the 1970s and 1980s it is possible to trace an evolution from a testimonial literature, based on experience, to the deconstruction of phallocentric discourse and the creation of an alternative feminine mythopoeisis. This article outlines the relationship between this evolution and the development of the Spanish feminist movement, in particular the shift of emphasis from equality to difference feminism and the recognition of the distinction between juridical and authentic equality. It concludes with an analysis of the attempts to synthesize these two apparently opposing currents to continue the search for new cultural paradigms. The 'boom' of women's writing is often highlighted in accounts of narrative during the Transition period.
