Medieval interest in physical astronomy has been relatively neglected compared to positional astronomy. In this paper tables for colors of solar and lunar eclipses in Hebrew manuscripts are examined, and it is argued that they all depend on a tradition which came to the Islamic world from India. Some of these tables are in Arabic written in Hebrew characters. This tradition continued in the Latin West and is represented in the editio princeps of the Alfonsine Tables, published in 1483.
