This paper will not deal in any depth with the more general and above all political aspects of relations between school and work, although the issue is highly political in nature. The content of this paper reflects certain values and beliefs of what kind of relations should be developed between school and the place of work. In the first place I will have a brief look upon apparent trends in contemporary life of work. Which futures seem plausible and desirable? Which are the prerequistities for a relation between school and lifte of work? My point of view will be an organizational one. I will regard school as a place of work like and among other places of work. To some extent I will try to provide concret illustrations from our research programmes at the Work Research Institutes in Oslo
