The festive background of late Baroque Spain has been until not long ago considerably ignored by the critics, which is why it has become mandatory to delve into the study of the various manifestations that arise in this period, like gallos, the vejamen or the justas poéticas. It is the case of the Justa poética sagrada , celebrated in Salamanca in 1691 to commemorate the canonization of san Juan de Sahagún and whose call cause the Certamen contra Certamen , a satirical reply and opposed to the event celebrated in the Colegio de San Bartolomé. This article aims to examine the printed documents which appears after the Certamen contra Certamen , as well the context which arises, as in the controversy emerged with the justa, considering that whose news, both contemporary and posterior are scarce.
