L’analyse des cadres a réintroduit le paramètre de la culture dans un domaine d’études jusque-là dominé par les théories de la mobilisation des ressources et du processus politique. Mais, inscrite dans l’horizon fécond d’un interactionnisme stratégique, elle a tendu à faire des cadres des ressources instrumentales pour atteindre des objectifs, unifier des organisations et vaincre des adversaires ; et elle les a conçus principalement comme des représentations cognitives justiciables d’une psychologie sociale. Cette contribution montre que la défense de causes ou la revendication de droits comme la mobilisation de réseaux d’activistes et la perception de structures d’opportunité requièrent les contraintes de cadrage de cultures publiques. La dimension dramaturgique et rhétorique des actions collectives doit ainsi être repensée dans une théorie des arènes publiques.
