L'A. souleve la question de la compatibilite de la rationalite et de la responsabilite du sujet dans la theorie de l'action de Saint Thomas d'Aquin, fondee sur la theorie du choix comme expression de la volonte. L'A. etudie l'evolution de la problematique de la liberte du jugement pratique a travers une approche chronologique de ses oeuvres «De veritate», «Summa contra gentiles», «Summa theologicae»I-II et «De malo»q.6. L'A. montre comment Saint Thomas evite le danger d'un intellectualisme deterministe en introduisant une distinction entre l'exercice et la specification d'un acte, et en localisant la causalite finale dans la volonte
