Resumo

Bilingual Hong Kong Chinese university students were asked to evaluate the taped voices of Chinese and English speakers on 13 traits. Subjects were unaware that speakers were actually bilinguals speaking once in each language. Chinese guises of the speakers were rated more favorably on seven traits and English guises on four traits. Factor analysis of ratings revealed two major factors, one consisting of traits related to character, and the other of traits related to success. Chinese guises were favored on the former and English guises on the latter.
