Dileme in merila ob kodifikaciji frazeologije

The article addresses traditional phraseological dilemmas connected with norm and codification: the spelling of the initial letter of the onomastic component of phraseological units, solid spelling or spelling as two words. A survey of Slovenian manuals of orthography reveals a fragmentary codification of proper names in idioms and varying codification principles concerning solid spelling or spelling as two words, taking into account formal and semantic principles. The analysis shows that in use, norm and codification, the capital initial of the onomastic component of phraseological units has prevailed, but that appellativisation processes are not negligible. The data presented in the article, obtained by means of a comprehensive analysis of phraseological material in Slovenian corpora, show the tendency of solid spelling or spelling as two words in phraseology for future codification. Its function in phraseological units is to reveal and enforce primarily formal and functional principles for the formation of a single word compound, since the semantic principle is unreliable in units whose semantic transfers are intrinsic by definition. In this respect, a somewhat special behaviour is exhibited by pragmatic idioms.
