programme at King Alfred's College, Winchester, who have been prepared to suspend their disbelief in philosophy and join me in trying to express our philosophical thinking. They have all risked philosophy's higher education and in doing so, many have produced work of a quality beyond their expectations. This only goes to show that when the content of your degree really matters to you and in some cases is you, then so much can be achieved in a short time. I want to acknowledge these students, and in particular those who have worked with me on their dissertations. They have been my university. I hope that in some way their higher education is sustaining them in the difficulties of their lives and contributing to its joys.
