This essay explores the writing of immigrant groups under-represented in Southern literature. Rather than redescribing the South, new immigrant writers turn a mirror on the region, and images reflected back tell the South in new ways. Changing demographics have opened up the biracial literary tradition, making pressing demands for critics to reconceptualise southern literary contexts. This essay pays particular attention to dual-location novels by writers who contribute to an ongoing conversation about region and ethnicity.
