Daily excursions to the bazaar are customary for many Gilgiti men in nonwinter months. They go to buy perishable foods, household items, kerosene, and propane from China, as well as to chat with friends and associates over cold drinks or tea. Some families own vehicles, but most men get around town either on foot or by hailing a Suzuki van, the local vehicle used for public transportation.
