The epilogue draws the major threads of narratives that have unfolded throughout the book to a conclusion. In tracing the threads of monasticization that wove their way around pious laywomen it has drawn attention to the ways in which dynamic communities came to be remembered only for their piety and obedience. At the same time, this epilogue revisits the creation of fictive histories and illustrates some of the ways that they have continued to influence women religious in the modern world.
