The Introduction explains the notion of interpassivity as the pleasure in letting others consume (instead of work) in one’s place. It illustrates the relevance and topicality of the concept. Crucial aspects of current "cultural capitalism" that sells not so much just goods but instead feelings and lifestyles, rely on a dimension of interpassivity: For example, the current popularity of off-road cars and so-called SUVs can be explained by the fact that these cars give people a feeling of being in the countryside without actually having to go there.
