In Memoirs Found in a Bathtub, written in 1960 and published in 1961, we find — as in Solaris which dates from the same time — the world as metaphor and a blending of inner and outer experience;1 we also find the methodological directives of The Investigation (1959),2 only now they are applied to an attempt to solve the mysteries of one's existence (or that of the hero), rather than the mystery of the disappearances of corpses from a mortuary, as in this metaphysical quasi-mystery novel, a conventional police investigation that offers also an alternative statistical solution in addition to the tried stereotypes of such a case.KeywordsAuthentic PatternIcal LabourDivine EssenceComic AspectSecret AgreementThese keywords were added by machine and not by the authors.
