This chapter presents the main lines of the development of Spanish psychology in the 20th century. It also includes a brief notice on its roots in modern times, and also a short view of those contributions carried out by a few psychologists forced to go into exile after the Spanish Civil War (1936–1939). Its flourishing time arrived with the creation of a degree in psychology, and the appearance of many active groups dedicated to research, teaching, and practice. Present-day psychology in Spain has one of the largest bodies of professionals, covering numerous specialties and reaching a high degree of sophistication and competence. Research, mainly in university departments and private institutions, is analogous to that done in prestigious centers of developed Western countries.
