Resumo

This research evaluates the empirical evidence of an emerging transnational corporate community over the past 25 years. In a study of the Fortune Global 500 between 1983 and 1998, we find a significant increase in the total number of interlocking directorates and even greater growth in transnational interlocks. This growth is predominantly among firms within the European Community and between firms in Europe and the US. There has also been a dramatic growth in domestic interlocks in certain European states. These findings suggest that there is, indeed, an emerging transnational business community.
