The activities and material presented during this week-long field trip introduced participants to one of the world’s largest and most prolific sedimentary copper provinces—the Central African Copperbelt—with a focus on the Zambian Copperbelt and the Domes Region of Zambia. The sedimentary rock-hosted ore deposits of the Central African Copperbelt (CACB) have been the focus of large-scale mining, exploration and geological research since the beginning of the 20th century. Participants experienced the Kalulushi Core Facility, which stores ~110,000 m of core, and the Nkana and Nchanga mines. They were familiarized with the geology of the Mingomba deposit, the Kansanshi Cu-Au and Lumwana Cu mines, and the Trident project, comprising the Sentinel Cu and Enterprise Ni mines.
