Migration has become a contested issue in post-migrant democracies. This special issue takes the contested nature of migration as a starting point to shed light on the interrelation between democracy and migration. The aim is to assess the challenges and democratic potentials of the increasing politicisation of migration. Part I scrutinises the contradictive mechanisms of inclusion and exclusion within democratic orders. Part II examines current political debates and their impact on democratic self-conceptions. Part III looks at migrant practices and anti-racist strategies and analyses how they can contribute to the democratisation of democracy.
