As the focus in management increasingly turns toward the importance of relationships, trust has become a key topic for both researchers and practitioners. Antecedents of trust, such as trust propensity, ability, benevolence, integrity, and trustworthiness, have been examined in an effort to better understand how trust is created, and important outcomes of trust, such as task performance, citizenship behaviors, and risk taking, have been identified. In a globalized business environment, the role of these trust‐related factors in the establishment of cross‐cultural relationships may well be the foundation for success in international management; however, research in the global context is still in the early stages of development. Differences across cultures in how relationships are formed and perceived influence the trust building process within cultural contexts and between culturally different individuals.
