The sociology of work refers to the analysis of work, or labor, properties, processes, and outcomes. It analyzes the social settings, conditions, and dimensions of work, including the relations between workers and other agents within the work process. It also studies the relationship between work and nonwork spheres of society, including leisure, family, and social life. It focuses on the nature and social organization under capitalism, from Fordism to post‐Fordism. The sociology of work represents a subfield of economic sociology as a comprehensive sociological analysis of the economy in relation to society.
