Raymond Aron (1905–1983) was a twentieth‐century philosopher, sociologist, and political thinker. Author of more than 40 books, he was also a university professor and journalist commentator. Perhaps the most important influence on Aron's thinking was Max Weber. Aron shared Weber's distrust of simple solutions to complex problems as well as a belief in the power of reason.
