Productivity is one of the major topics uniting research in operations management. In concept it is simple enough, but defining it precisely can be difficult and confusing for the manager. Many things can contribute to productivity gain, from investments in the inputs of capital and labor, to the way a process is managed. A recent theory, the theory of swift, even flow, helps to clarify what affects productivity and what does not.
