The concept of “discrimination” is quite difficult to define. This is because discriminations can (a) sometimes be an okay thing to do (it is not always wrong to discriminate) and because (b) discrimination must always be distinguished from mere or simple disadvantage. To count as discrimination, however, we normally mean that someone is behaving in a way that is immoral. Direct discrimination is distinguished from so‐called indirect discrimination and it is argued that “indirect discrimination” would normally be better understood in term of social disadvantage rather than discrimination.
