This entry describes the concept of nodal governance. After a long history of seeing the state as the main institution responsible for the governance of security, nodal governance provided a way of exploring security governance “beyond the state.” This entry considers the concept, its development, critiques, and different domains of governance within which it has been used as a theoretical framework.
