My aim here is not to make yet another contribution to the already swollen numbers of academic analyses of Northern Ireland. Nor do I claim that what follows is in any way a comprehensive review of the conflict there. I wish merely to sketch an overview of those elements of the conflict which are most pertinent to the argument I want to develop in later chapters. There are many excellent analyses already in existence, and I will simply enlist the help of extant scholarly work, rather than try to replace it with further analysis. These keywords were added by machine and not by the authors. This process is experimental and the keywords may be updated as the learning algorithm improves.
