The COVID‐19 pandemic is one of the most impactful public health crises in this century, which negatively impacted transportation systems from both the demand and supply side. In the short term, lockdowns and travel bans led to an unprecedented decline in mobility demand and large‐scale service cuts. Meanwhile, supply of mobility faced severe disruptions due to quarantine measures and manpower shortages. During the intermediate phase, transportation systems adapted to new public health protocols with gradual recovery. However, ongoing challenges like shifts in commuting patterns persisted. Long‐term impacts are expected to include a modal shift toward working from home and private vehicles and mixed effects on the climate and social equity. The recovery and future development of transportation systems will require a balanced focus on sustainable, resilient, and equitable solutions to address these evolving challenges.
