The Social War was a military conflict between ATHENS and her allies in the Second Athenian Confederacy ( see ATHENIAN CONFEDERACY, SECOND ). It lasted from 357 to 355 BCE and weakened the position of Athens in the Greek world. Our main source, DIODORUS OF SICILY , already uses the phrase “social war” (16.7.3: polemon symmachikon ).
