Kaulonia, Greek city in southern Italy, founded on the Ionian Sea by the Achaians from Kroton and from Greek Achaia (ca. 650 bce ); it was a member of the Achaian League in Magna Graecia. It was destroyed by Dionysios I, restored soon afterward, captured by Campanian troops during the war against Pyrrhos, and finally destroyed by the Romans in 209 bce . Kaulonia has an important sanctuary on Punta Stilo (peripteros temple, great altar, metallurgical workshops), where the so‐called “Tabula Kauloniensis” was discovered.
