Immigrant smuggling involves the unauthorized movement of people between and across international borders, in exchange for financial or material benefit. It is a complex and profitable global industry that cannot be separated from larger political and social processes in the origin, receiving, and transit states. The immigrant smuggling industry becomes stronger as states increase border security and enforcement.
