Rameses (“the one born of Re”) was a name incorporated into the nomina of a number of kings of Egypt, either on its own or alongside a further name. In addition to the eleven given ordinal numbers in modern times, king Siptah was at one stage in his reign known as Rameses‐Siptah, while Psusennes I was on occasion Rameses‐Pasebkhanut. The prevalence of the name during the 19th and 20th Dynasties has led to this period being referred to as the Ramesside period.
