Olympias (ca. 373–316 BCE), daughter of Neoptolemos, king of the Molossians, married Philip II of Macedon and had two children: Alexander (the Great) and Cleopatra. During Alexander's absence on campaign in Asia, Olympias remained in close touch with her son, and acted in concert with his policies and in support of her own, often in opposition to Alexander's general Antipater. After Alexander's death, she was actively involved in Macedonian politics until captured and killed by Cassander.
