Alois Riegl (Linz, 1858–Vienna, 1905) was an Austrian art historian. He read humanities and art history in Vienna, where he became a curator at the k.k. Österreichisches Museum für Kunst und Industrie (1887), subsequently developing an interest in decoration, ornament, and stylistic processes.
