Geotargeting protocols are required for transmitting location‐based information from sensors, the Global Positioning System, and mobile devices that can provide their own location coordinates. Popular geotargeting protocol standards are GeoSMS, WaterML, and Sensor Web Enablement. These protocol standards have been applied in various applications, including disaster responses, taxi booking services, water resource management, and debris flow monitoring systems.
