Sheep

Sheep were of significant economic importance in the ancient world, as sources both of food and of valuable wool. The textiles produced from wool were a fundamental part of the economic structure of many ancient state‐level civilizations. The development of specialized wool production systems and of breeds of sheep is seen in tandem with the rise of complex states across the ancient world.
