Androkles was the author of a work called On Cyprus , which survives in only a single fragment in the Etymologicum Magnum . An “Androkles” is also mentioned in two Cyprian inscriptions and in two works by the historian Arrian as the fourth‐century bce king of Amathus in southern Cyprus, and some modern scholars have proposed identifying the author and ancient king as the same man.
