Hippocrates (born ca. 460 BCE in Kos, died ca. 370 Larissa, Thessaly) is considered by many today (and especially by modern physicians) to be the founder of occidental medical science, a rank he was already assigned in antiquity. However, this standard portrayal of this most famous physician is the product of a tradition that only began many years after Hippocrates' death.
