Philology can be seen as a rather technical discipline developing methods to prove the authenticity of any edited text as well as a hermeneutical discipline dealing with the question of textual meaning in general. Philology can also be regarded as a self‐reflexive tool within communication theory and media philosophy where it helps to foster methodological awareness of the very medium we choose to operate in when addressing the question of other media.
