The Comitium was the principal place of assembly for Roman voting groups ( comitia ) during the republic and for a time the judicial seat of the urban praetor. It is located off the north corner of the Forum Romanum, its boundaries the Forum Iulium, Argiletum, Sacra Via, and Arch of Septimius Severus. In addition to its being the original meeting place of the eponymous comitia curiata (Varro Ling . 5.155), Livy calls it the vestibulum of the Curia, which was initially situated on its north rim (45.24.12).
