An eminent Greek archaeologist and academic, Christos Tsountas has been justly recognized as the father of Greek prehistory. His groundbreaking work in the late nineteenth and early twentieth century led to the discovery and systematic research of three major Aegean civilizations: Mycenaean, Cycladic, and Thessalian Neolithic. He served as Ephor of Antiquities, fellow of the Athens Archaeological Society and the Academy of Athens, and professor of archaeology at the Universities of Athens and Thessaloniki.
